Educational Designer, EdTech Specialist,  Champion of Inclusive Learning - Meet Amanda Evans

Amanda Evans is an experienced educational designer with a passion for building engaging, inclusive learning experiences that go beyond the traditional. Her work spans universities, government agencies, and global initiatives—always with a focus on design that puts the learner at the centre.

She brings to Curio a depth of experience from institutions including the University of Sydney, Southern Cross University, and Navitas. Across these roles, Amanda has developed interactive online modules, built AI-integrated assessment tools, and championed the use of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to ensure accessibility from day one. Her projects have reached global audiences—from developing veterinary training modules translated into five languages, to presenting her work at the World Health Summit in Berlin.

At Curio, Amanda is working across a diverse set of projects for Southern Cross University, Curtin University, and the Council for Intellectual Disability (CID). She’s particularly energised by the opportunity to work in sectors beyond higher education.

“In a university setting, you can end up in a reviewer role—giving feedback on ideas already set. What I love about working at Curio is that I get to help shape those ideas from the start. It’s a space where creative thinking is encouraged.”

Amanda is deeply interested in gamification and experiential learning. She’s explored the use of platforms like Minecraft to embed learning content in immersive environments and enjoys experimenting with game elements to boost engagement and retention. From simulations and scenarios to learner-led tasks, Amanda brings a playful yet purposeful approach to digital learning.

She’s also at the forefront of applying generative AI to course development—recently building AI-powered agents to guide occupational therapy students through case-based scenarios, providing real-time feedback and adaptive pathways.

With qualifications including a Master of Educational Technology and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Games and Simulations, Amanda blends academic insight with technical fluency. Her toolkit includes Rise360, Storyline, H5P, Adobe Creative Cloud, and a growing suite of AI tools and frameworks.

Outside of work, Amanda is a dedicated gamer and traveller. She’s especially drawn to co-op games with powerful storylines—It Takes Two is a standout—and enjoys the way interactive storytelling mirrors the kind of learning experiences she aims to design.

“Cooperative games are about collaboration, problem-solving, and emotion. They’re not that different from great learning design. Both need to be meaningful, memorable, and built around human connection.”

Amanda’s next adventure will take her to South Africa and Zambia—but in the meantime, we’re lucky to have her curiosity, creativity, and expertise right here at Curio.
