10-year strategy for a growing early years provider.

Shaping a 10-Year Vision for Sector Leadership

Curio helped Kids First Australia define a bold strategic direction, enabling sustainable growth and long-term impact in a shifting social services landscape.

The Challenge

Kids First Australia, a leading provider of child and family services, was approaching the end of its 2017–2020 strategy amid rising sector complexity, funding reform, and increased demand. The organisation faced a pivotal moment: How could it position itself for long-term relevance and impact in a competitive, outcomes-driven environment?

With an ambitious Board and Executive team, Kids First sought a partner to facilitate deep strategic reflection and deliver a practical yet future-focused roadmap.

Our Approach

Curio delivered a targeted, three-stage engagement designed to drive clarity, alignment, and strategic foresight:

  1. Sector and Organisational Context Review
We assessed demographic trends, government reforms, and Kids First’s operational landscape to identify strategic opportunities and risks.

  2. Vision and Options Development
In close collaboration with the CEO, Executive Team, and Board, we facilitated strategy sessions to explore and refine three to five long-term positioning options.

  3. Strategic Plan Finalisation
We guided the leadership team in articulating a ten-year vision supported by actionable medium-term goals, investment models, and KPIs—framing clear priorities for scale, sustainability, and innovation.

Impact

  • Defined a 10-year strategic vision aligned to policy reform, demographic shifts, and sector positioning.

  • Strengthened executive and board alignment, improving governance and long-term planning capabilities.

  • Established four clear strategic goals around impact measurement, service expansion, financial sustainability, and workforce capability.

  • Positioned Kids First for success in competitive funding environments, with a sharper brand narrative and clearer value proposition.

“The final plan reflects who we are and where we want to go—grounded in evidence, driven by purpose, and responsive to our community.”
