Designing for Impact: Gabby and Kadee on Visual Learning at Curio

At Curio, our graphic designers don’t just make things look good — they design for impact. Gabby Parish and Kadee Fang, are redefining what it means to “make it visual” — not for decoration, but to support clarity, accessibility, and understanding.

Their work is grounded in the principles of visual learning: Using design to help learners absorb, process, and retain information. It’s about reducing cognitive load, highlighting key concepts, and guiding learners through complex ideas in a way that feels intuitive and engaging.

When a design works, the learner doesn’t even notice it — they just understand what they’re meant to do or take away. That’s the goal.” – Kadee Fang

Designing for Accessibility and Flow

Gabby and Kadee design with intention. From colour contrast and font size to layout hierarchy and image placement, every choice is made to support how people learn.

“Good design in education is invisible — it clears a path for the learner. But getting there means thinking deeply about accessibility, readability and flow.” – Gabby Parish

They work closely with learning designers and subject matter experts to map out what learners need — then translate that into visuals that feel simple, elegant, and purposeful.

One recent project involved a redesign of a university training module where student feedback directly shaped the visual layout. “We ran workshops with learners at different stages of their education to understand what was working — and what wasn’t,” Kadee says. “It shifted our whole approach.”

Visuals as Learning Tools

Visual learning is not just about adding illustrations. It’s about using visual hierarchy, diagrams, interactive elements, and carefully placed whitespace to make learning materials more digestible.

Gabby, a visual learner herself, explains:

“Sometimes one graphic can do the job of a whole paragraph. It helps people connect ideas and see the bigger picture — literally.”

From infographics and course banners to full UI mockups for LMS platforms, Gabby and Kadee are helping shape the next generation of online learning experiences. Their work is not about flashy aesthetics — it’s about designing with empathy, clarity, and purpose.

Gabby Parish and Kadee Fang have shown that graphic design in the education sector is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating meaningful, accessible, and impactful learning experiences. Their ability to balance creativity with functionality, while meeting the rigorous demands of educational standards, is a testament to the crucial role design plays in shaping how students absorb and interact with content. By incorporating student feedback, collaborating closely with educators, and staying attuned to emerging trends, they continue to elevate educational content, making it more engaging, inclusive, and effective. Their work serves as a powerful reminder of how thoughtful design can transform education and inspire a new generation of learners.
