Learning design and development

Create transformative learning experiences

We create learning people can use, remember and apply. Online, blended or face to face, it's grounded in evidence and shaped around your learners.

What we do

We start where you need us

Some clients come to us with a single course to build. Others want a whole curriculum rethought, a program moved online, or a team that can keep the work going after we leave. We work with universities, colleges, professional bodies, government and workplaces, and no two of them need the same thing.

So we don't start with a fixed method. We start with what you're trying to achieve, the people who'll learn and the expertise you already have. Then we work alongside you as a partner, from the first conversation to launch and beyond.

What we design and build

From a single course to a whole curriculum

Courses and programs

A new learning offer designed from the ground up, from outcomes and structure through activities, assessment, content and facilitator guidance.

Curriculum and portfolio uplift

Programs reviewed as a connected whole, to find gaps and duplication, improve coherence and align the curriculum with learner, accreditation and industry needs.

Digital and blended experiences

The right balance of self-directed, facilitated, synchronous and workplace learning for your audience and context.

Assessments and authentic practice

Opportunities for learners to apply knowledge, get useful feedback and demonstrate the capabilities that matter beyond the course.

Content and media production

Clear copy, visual assets, video, animation and interactive experiences that serve the learning purpose.

Templates and design systems

Reusable course patterns, LMS templates and production guidance that improve consistency and help internal teams work faster.

How we design a course

We work as consultants, not a production line. Each stage is a conversation with your team, and the working relationships we build along the way matter as much as the course.

  1. Discovery

We meet your learners, subject experts and the people who'll teach the course, and agree what success looks like.

  2. Blueprint

You sign off the outcomes, structure, assessment and a sample module before we build at scale.

  3. Build

Designers, writers and media producers build in your LMS or to your template, with your subject experts reviewing as we go.

  4. Test and launch

We check accessibility and quality against your standards, pilot with real learners where we can, and fix what we find.

  5. Improve

After the first run, we use learner feedback and platform data to decide what to change.

AI in design

More time for the work people do best

AI helps with research, structure, drafting and production. That gives our designers more time for the parts people do best: understanding your context, working with your experts and making learning that engages.

It's your choice. We agree at the start whether and how AI is used on your work, and if you'd rather we didn't use it, we don't.

What every course we build meets

  • Accessible

Designed and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA, including video, documents and interactive content.

  • Built for your platform

Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace or Totara, in your existing template or one we design with you.

  • Mobile-ready

Learners can work through it on a phone as easily as on a laptop.

  • Measurable

Outcomes, assessments and evaluation are planned from the start, not added at the end.

Learning design in action

Early years
Scaling trauma-informed early years training

Kids First Australia needed its trauma-informed Early Years Education Program to reach far beyond the sites it started in. We turned a relational, in-person model into scalable eLearning for early childhood teams across Victoria.

Higher education
Building carbon literacy into a business school

Leeds University Business School wanted carbon literacy built into staff and student capability. We designed a short, self-directed course with the university's own subject expert, rather than a workshop that fades.

Higher education
Becoming the standing course design partner

By late 2019 RMIT Online was growing faster than its procurement could commission course design. We became the standing design partner, so new courses could move without re-running approvals each time.

Questions about learning design and development

Do you work with our own subject experts?
Yes, almost always. Your experts know the subject and your learners. We bring the learning design, writing, media and build, and shape the course around what they know, so their time goes where it counts.
How long does it take to build a course?
It varies with the course and how much material already exists. A typical short course takes 10 to 12 weeks from discovery to launch. A full program takes longer and is built in stages, so the first courses can launch while later ones are still in design. A discovery call is the quickest way to get a timeline for yours.
Can you build in our LMS and to our template?
Yes. We build in your LMS, whether that's Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace or Totara, and to your template, not ours. If you don't have one yet, we can design it with you.
How do you make courses accessible?
We design and test to WCAG 2.2 AA. That covers course pages, video captions and transcripts, documents and interactive content, not just the page layout.
Do you use AI?
Only if you want us to. When we do, it helps with research, structure, drafting and production, and our designers review everything before it reaches learners. We agree how AI is used at the start, and if you'd rather we didn't use it, we don't.
Can you update courses we already have?
Yes. We review what you have, find the gaps and overlaps, and improve it without starting from scratch.
